One Bag!

One Leicester, One Bag!

One Leicester in partnership with Leicester City Council launched environmentally-friendly bags for shoppers all across Leicester in November. The re-usable cloth bags and biodegradable paper shopping bags have been launched in order to help reduce the number of plastic shopping bags in use.

The move is part of the One Leicester vision to improve Leicester over the next 25 years.

Councillor Ross Willmott said: “Hundreds of thousands of disposable plastic shopping bags are used every year and many end up in landfill sites, so encouraging people to change to reusable and more environmentally-friendly bags will have huge environmental benefits, both for the city and society as a whole.”

In all, 25,000 cloth bags and 15,000 paper bags will be available from the customer care centre at Leicester Market and also from Beaumont Leys Shopping Centre.

New Walk Museum will stock 1,500 of each type of bag, and Jewry Wall Museum will give away 250 of each of the bags.

Highcross Leicester will be giving away 500 of each type of bag from its management suite, and the Tourist Information Centre will be giving away 300 of each bag.

Smaller quantities will also be available from the Guildhall, Newarke Houses Museum and Belgrave Hall.
