One Leicester - Celebrating Older Persons' Month

September is celebrated as Older Persons’ Month for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland each year. To mark the occasion a series of events aimed at older people will be taking place across the city, as Leicester City Council, NHS Leicester City and other partner organisations aim to improve the well being and health of older people who live in the city.

Celebrate Older Persons’ Month, with a series of events and activities in various venues, including libraries, museums, community centres and leisure centres. You can experience open days at Danbury Gardens and Curve Theatre, taster sessions, special events at Leicester market, and a ‘Caring in Later Life’ event for carers. There's also events planned jointly with Leicester City NHS such as Knighton Park Fun Day & Health Village, Dementia & Alzheimers events and various health & well being sessions.

Older Persons’ Month will culminate with International Older Peoples’ Day on 1st October 2010 and will be marked with a public ‘Question Time’ where older people will be able to question senior officers regarding older people’s services. This ‘listening event’ will be held at the Council Chambers at the Leicester City Town Hall.
