On 28th April 2009 - three of Leicester’s finest ambassadors were been given the freedom of the city at a spectacular ceremony.
Singing legend Engelbert Humperdinck, former Foxes star Alan Birchenall MBE and author Sue Townsend were all given the Honorary Freedom of Leicester in recognition of their outstanding contribution to their chosen fields of work.
Invited dignitaries and members of the public filled De Montfort Hall on Monday, April 27, to see the three handed the greatest honour which the city can confer upon them.
Those attending included some of the people who have already been granted Honorary Freedom of Leicester, including DNA pioneer Sir Alec Jeffreys and fitness expert Rosemary Conley.
Other recipients have included Gary Lineker, and both Richard and David Attenborough.
