‘One Brilliant Future’ was a campaign with one simple message:
“If young people are the future, then Leicester’s future looks brilliant!”

The One Brilliant Future campaign aimed to help people look past the media stories about yobs and hoodies and see young people as they really are – talented, creative, helpful, ambitious, giving, intelligent, positive, caring, energetic… in other words, brilliant!
Young people from across the city were encouraged to sent in their artwork, photography, writing, music, and videos, to share the positive things that they do. You can see the entries here:
One Brilliant Future Competition
As well as a number of people winning the actual competition, a range of images were then chosen by young people to be put into a 2011 calender.
Councillor Wayne Naylor, Cabinet Member Health and Community Safety said: “The calendar reflected the positive work young people of Leicester had carried out. One Brilliant Future is about celebrating the positives that young people in our city have to offer. We hear so many negative things said about young people that it can be easy to forget that the majority of young people are out there doing positive things with their lives, as a result of which Leicester can look forward to a brilliant future”.
As said by one of the young people that took part in the campaign, “these are just a few examples of the positive things that young people do – the more you open your eyes to this in everyday life, the more you will see.”
