Statement On Engagement

The Leicester JSNA Project Board works to the Leicester Shadow Health and Wellbeing Board and aims to produce a programme of high level and specific needs assessments over a number of years.

The Project Board recognises the importance of effective engagement as a means of sense checking, generating ideas and ensuring the relevance of needs assessment to the conditions and experience of people who use services or who live in the city.

The Project Board will work within and support the approach to engagement being developed by the Shadow Health and Wellbeing Board.

The JSNA Project Board has engaged with stakeholders over the 2011/12 high level Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) and has learnt from that. This learning has resulted in:

• An awareness of the need to view engagement as an on-going programme, which may not be right all the time but will seek to have clear objectives, demonstrate transparency and responsiveness, and drive learning and improvements in JSNA Project Board practice and outputs

• An intention, over the course of the next 3 years, to develop a JSNA approach to engagement, in keeping with that of the Shadow Health and Wellbeing Board

• Raising awareness of and consultation on early drafts of JSNA content • A commitment to collectively drawing out conclusions from the high level JSNA

Specific needs assessments on particular topics will have public engagement plans built into them.

The JSNA Project Board welcomes comments and suggestions aimed at improving the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and the Joint Specific Needs Assessments. It will not be possible to incorporate every comment or

suggestion, but the JSNA Project Board will ensure that key themes are reflected in the JSNA.

Comments on this Statement of Engagement are welcomed  by the JSNA Project Board.
